Discourse Features :D

Reflections Of Discourse Features

Some words and phrases help to develop ideas and relate them to one another. These kinds of words and phrases are often called discourse markers. Most of these discourse markers are formal and used when speaking in a formal context or when presenting complicated information in writing. When writing or speaking in the past, I did not even know what disclosed markers are, but I could still manage to use them as they are part of our sentences which we use everyday. Learning about disclose markers had shocked me as I did not even know that I was using it until that time. These are some of the other disclosed markers that I learnt.
  1. Ellipsis
  2. Back-Channel
  3. Binomials & Trinomials
  4. Discourse Markers
  5. Fronting
  1. Tags
  1. Vague Language

These are the features we would normally use due to our 'Singlish' at times. Discourse Features are used when you communicate either when you talk or write to a person (although it is more commonly used in speeches). Sometimes you want to 'beat about the bush' or ask a question, discourse features are your best friend for that situation. When you want to speak, think about discourse features to make your speeches seem 'happier' than others.   :)
